Sea Breeze Records and Alan
Baylock are pleased to announce the release of "Two Seconds to Midnight,"
the debut recording of the Alan Baylock Jazz Orchestra. The CD features over an
hour of music masterfully written by Alan Baylock, and is a great testament to
the many talents of this up and coming writer. The band consists of some of the
top jazz musicians on the east coast, veterans of bands including the Charles
Mingus Big Band, Maynard Ferguson and Big Bop Nouveau, the Doc Severinson
Orchestra, the Woody Herman Orchestra, the Airmen of Note, and the Army Blues.
In addition, jazz icon, Kenny Werner makes a guest appearance on piano.
"When starting a new piece of music, I
consciously try to forget old habits to discover newer ways of doing things.
Whether it's mixing and matching instrument colors to achieve subtly different
sounds, adding a few extra notes into a voicing for more "crunch," putting in
an unexpected rhythm (I'm always looking for ways to throw in a curveball), or
completely reworking the harmonic and formal structure of a tune, it's the
process of experimentation that makes creating music so exciting for me."
